I received several emails recently inquiring about my communication system. I use an augmentative communication software called E Z Keys from Words+ loaded on an off-the-shelf laptop and excellent external USB speakers that really push the sound. I have used E Z Keys since the early ’90’s when it was a DOS based program. Since becoming Windows compatible there is nothing I cannot do with E Z Keys. Let’s see, I can access any Windows program, I can send text messages, access the internet and email obviously, I have called in and taken wild turkey, deer and a large bobcat I used E Z Keys to say scat cat that was two feet away, I have given speeches on the steps of our Nation’s Capital, discovered I was an artist and my favorite opening a scanning program to drive my wheelchair I designed. The WCSanner driving program potentially may become a product of Words+. Good Lord, how could I forget, E Z Keys empowered me to swoon the love of my life!!!

I access the laptop with an incredibly sensitive EMG sensor called Impulse. The sensor is wireless employing Bluetooth technology making it extremely convenient. Impulse adheres to the skin and detects the slightest EMG activity. Without any financial incentives I have been involved with the development of the EMG sensor technology since 2000, it is user friendly.

The entire communication system including Impulse is available through Words+ and Medicare funded. A dear friend of mine with an engineering background, Gaylon Ponder, bought Words+ this summer. The perfect individual is the CEO of Words+. Gaylon is a genius, innovative, the best problem solver I have ever seen, compassionate and never stops thinking how to improve the quality of life for the noncommunicative.
